Speaker of the House Renee Ellmers

Not everyone is so brand-new to politics.

Some of us remember when the speaker’s gavel last exited the hands of a wino and was destined for one Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the least-doomed of the three gents in the following photo:

this book is a curse

At the time, McCarthy seemed ready to pick up the speakership and run with it, until people started asking questions (starting with Chuck C. Johnson of GotNews).

Washington is no stranger to political affairs, but a potential one between two members of Congress is a new one.

and no one wants to imagine what this three-way would look like

Apparently, just hinting at it caused McCarthy to withdraw from the speaker’s race:

McCarthy changed his mind on pursuing the speakership within a matter of hours, making the case for his candidacy at an early morning meeting, then saying he was dropping out by noon.

So who knows if this will come up again since apparently out of 200-ish representatives, Republicans have to just throw the same guy’s name up there again.
